Our overseas client was looking for a luxury uplift of this 3-bedroom duplex apartment in an outstanding Dubai Marina location. We have successfully given the interior a sophisticated European-centric modern aesthetic with touches of more oriental opulence in some of the fabrics. A flowing elegance in neutral and dark tones is enhanced with standout design features, splashes of colour, and vibrant artworks.
A core aspect of all our interiors is bespoke design. For this project, all lighting – both background and fixtures – and furniture is custom-made to fit the layout and style perfectly with an individual twist. There are always aspects that make people stop and look twice, to admire something with an unusual appeal.
Strong design points that punctuate the flow and draw your eye include the dramatically wallpapered stairwell, rich curtains, handmade headboard walls, and the contrast of sweeping shapes and angles in the soft furnishings.
Artwork and personalised design choices were agreed with the client via mood boards and discussions, while giving us the freedom to create a truly cohesive feel in the apartment. The result is a space where everything flows effortlessly and an easy stylish atmosphere pervades.
How we made it work
Our customised furnishings, including balcony seating, bring a more interconnected feel between the interior and exterior spaces, allowing the clients to really enjoy the spectacular view in comfort.
Precision-crafted furniture is a signature of Design’d Living, allowing us to truly match and harmonise the look of each interior. Here, the burnished fabric of the breakfast-bar stools works within a colour palette with the lounge area furniture, yet the designs contrast. This gives just the right elements of zoning, but with a feeling of cohesion.
Artwork emphasises the modern feel of the space, with a mixture of prints and original works to pull the attention and provide mood and life in each space. Likewise, hand-picked ornaments add to the elegance.
The kitchen area makeover offers a practical and streamlined yet refined space, with clean-lined surfaces and maximised storage for clutter-free living.
The details
The xxx-designed wallpaper is a striking eye-catching aspect that you notice on entering the apartment, offering stimulation with its bold design. Alongside is a contrasting dominant artwork, plus a clutch of notable hanging pendants. This then leads to a calmer upper space where the eye is drawn out to the dazzling marina view, and the palette switches to softer tones.
This zoning of areas is enhanced by use of one-of-a-kind rugs that delineate areas for relaxation – including in the bedrooms. The bedrooms offer further design individuality with bespoke headboard walls, which bring padded and stylish softness and muted tones, as well as complete luxury bedding provision to complement and match the other fabrics and colours as part of our complete turn-key service.
Individualised storage is subtly placed to keep areas clear and provide surfaces for ornaments and personal pieces to add a homely familiarity to the apartment.
Feature mirrors further enhance the spaces, with a circular backlit corridor mirror accentuating the area between lounge areas and bedrooms, and a large mirror at the top of the stairs, reflecting back the statement multi-coloured pendant lighting.
Key design features
On this project, the doubled-up burnt-orange glass shades in the master bedroom offer warm tones and individuality (as does the over-island kitchen lighting and stairwell pendants), adding to the personality of the space, and providing colour and interest against a more neutral palette.
Our exclusively-crafted lighting means we can design exactly to the space. Background and ambient lighting help create atmosphere, with feature pendants and shades offering both style and mood. If there’s a particular style of Italian lighting, for example, that a client has their eye on we can create that precisely to fit. No need to hunt down the exact piece, we simply design it to work.
